Ice Cream - Ent's mess stocks what Travis calls "homemade ice cream".
                                                              "Fortunate Son" [ENT]

IDIC - Acronym for Infinite Diversity in Infinite Combinations.  SEE: Vulcan Philosophy, IDIC.

Ikaarans - Alien race inhabiting the Expanse.  The E2-Archer rescued the ship of an Ikaaran named Esilia
from an anomaly field.  She became his wife and they had children.  The Enterprise got the technology
for an isomagnetic collector device from the Ikaarans.
                                                                "E2" [ENT]

Imaging Chamber - Tube used to do a full-body intensivee scan in Sickbay.
Sickbay    Phlox needed to use the imaging chamber to determine what
type of treatment was necessary for the Antaran who came
    in with radiation sickness.
            "The Breach" [ENT]
Phlox would perform "regeneration therapy" for a disrupter
burn patient, but the imaging chamber was damaged in an attack.
            "Anomaly" [ENT]

Imaging Relays - On the bridge, Tucker and T'Pol prepaare the probes for a science mission: to study
a planet that has shifted its orbit between two gas giants; the stresses (Starfleet predicts) will superheat
its core and cause spectacular volcanism.  The probes will have thermal scanners and imaging relays.
Enterprise will drop six or seven in high orbit.
                                                            "Horizon" [ENT]

IME - Acronym for Interspecies Medical Exchange.

Immunocytic Gel Worms - A type of small animal that lives in a fluid environment.  Doctor Phlox keeps
immunocytic gel worms aboard Enterprise for medical use... don't shake them.
                                                                "Broken Bow" [ENT]

Impulse drive - The general term for a sublight propulsion system.  Aboard most Earth and later
Federation starships, impulse drive is powered by one or more fusion reactors that employ deuterium
fuel to yield helium plasma and a lot of power.  Enterprise has four impulse engines.   The impulse
engines on Enterprise and her shuttles glow blue-white.
                                                               "Broken Bow" [ENT]
Future Earth and Federation starships typically had red-orange impulse glows, aside from the
Enterprise-C in "Yesterday's Enterprise" (TNG) and various shuttles.
The gravitational shear of a class-4 black hole necessitated an approach on impulse.
                                                                "Singularity" [ENT]

Impulse manifolds - Tucker had been planning to "purge thhe impulse manifolds", but had to fix
the captain's chair instead.                  "Singularity" [ENT]
If the impulse manifolds get clogged, the engines will overload.
                                                                "Doctor's Orders" [ENT]

Impulse Reactors - Mayweather tells a ghost story in which an assistant engineer began to act oddly,
and almost overloaded the impulse reactors.
                                                                  "Strange New World" [ENT]

Impulse Relays - when plasma lightning hits the port bow, "C-Deck, Subsection Four" it creates a
power surge in the "impulse relays".  This in turn leads to an antimatter cascade that almost destroys
    the ship.                                               "Cold Front" [ENT]

Impulse speed  - Speed lower than lightspeed, or more precisely: the speed obtained by an impulse drive.
We speak of full, half and quarter impulse to quantify such speeds.  The velocity of 'full impulse' refers
to a ship's maximum impulse speed.  Normally, full impulse speed is one-quarter the speed of light but
can be as high as one-half light speed.  Although this is adequate for most interplanetary travel, within
a single solar system, it is inadequate for travel between the stars.  Faster-than-light velocities, necessary
for interstellar flight, generally requires the use of warp drive.
After encountering an anomaly that incapacitated their warp drive, Enterprise detected another vessel
8 million km away.  Archer orders "best speed", which is "one-quarter impulse".
                                                                "Anomaly" [ENT]

Inaprovaline - Pharmaceutical.  Not to be coonfused with anaprovaline  , improvaline, or inoprovaline.
The Doctor and Malcolm synthesize inaprovaline to use as an antitoxin to counteract the effects
produced by an alien plant spore toxin.  The toxin became active due to a breakdown of tropolisine
(another plant spore chemical acting as a hallucinogen) in the bloodstream.
                                                             "Strange New World" [ENT]
T'Pol told Dr. Phlox that 25mg should suffice to relieve the symptoms of her agitation - high blood
pressure and increased synaptic activity; a result of not meditating before going to bed.  Phlox didn't
argue, and gave her the medication.
                                                             "Fusion" [ENT]
When Janeway didn't have a  pulse, blood pressure, or electrical activity in the mid brain. And no
measurable response in her cerebral cortex, the EMH used cordrazine and a cortical stimulator to
get at least a thready pulse back.  He followed this with 75mg of inaprovaline in preparation for
direct synaptic stimulation which was unsuccessful in stopping the massive cerebro-vascular collapse.
                                                              "Coda" [VOY]

Inducers - SEE: Antimatter inducers.

Inertial clamp - A component of the Suliban docking interface.
                                                             "Broken Bow" [ENT]

Infrared scanner - A component of a starship's targeting systems.  Reed says he might be able to
compensate for the targeting problem by refocusing the infrared scanner, which would take the
better part of a day to accomplish.
                                                             "Fight or Flight" [ENT]

Ingari Monastery - The oldest monastery Capt. Archer had ever visited before his trip to P'Jem, the
Ingari Monastery is in Tibet, on Earth.
                                                              "The Andorian Incident" [ENT]

Injector Assembly - Malcolm and Tucker were purging a clogged injector assembly when Malcolm asked
why he didn't just massage it with his magic fingers.
                                                                "Rajiin" [ENT]
    SEE Also:  Antimatter Injector

Injector - SEE: Antimatter Injector , Deuterium Injector , Plasma Injector .

Inspection Pod - A small vessel used to examine the ouutside of the ship (usually for damage).
Orbital Pod    Trip scratches the paint outside the ship when he bumps it
    with an inspection pod.
    SEE:  Orbital-Six
                 "Broken Bow" [ENT]
In an inspection pod, Trip and Archer examine the damage
    from the Romulan mine.
                  "Dead Stop" [ENT]

Intercom - Aboard certain Earth and Federation spacecraft, a wall or console mounted voice
communications terminal.  Intercom stations fell into disuse in later Federation starships, as the
personal communicator provides remote access to the ship's internal communications network.
The wall intercom can be patched into an external com signal.
                                                            "Strange New World" [ENT]

Intermix ratio - When trying to restart the warp drive after entering an anomaly, Tucker calls out to an
engineer assisting him "Watch that intermix ratio ... Creating a stable warp field's not easy when the
laws of physics don't cooperate."    "Anomaly" [ENT]

Interspatial flux - After being hit by an anomaly, Archer became infected with several clusters of parasites
that exist in an interspatial flux, originating in a domain outside of normal space-time.
                                                             "Twilight" [ENT]

Interspecies Medical Exchange (IME) - A program set up to share medical data and techniques
among intelligent species.  Doctor Phlox was a participant in the Interspecies Medical Exchange,
assigned to Earth.                            "Broken Bow" [ENT]
Dr. Lucas is part of the program and is the only human serving among the Denobulans.
                                                             "Dear Doctor" [ENT]
The Interspecies Medical Exchange hosted a conference on Dekendi III in the autumn of 2152.
Some of Vulcan's finest physicians were there.  Dr. Phlox unsuccessfully tried to use the conference
as a cover for questioning the Vulcans on the state of their research into a cure to Pa'nar syndrome,
while at the same time not letting them know that T'Pol was suffering from it.
                                                             "Stigma" [ENT]
The IME asked Phlox to become the Director of Xenobiology.  He was considering it but had
become rather fond of his shipmates and so did not want to leave them just yet.
                                                              "Affliction" [ENT]

Intracellular Regeneration - Treatment regime used for the Anataran who received a high dose of
radiation in a reactor casing rupture.   "The Breach" [ENT]

Intrepid - Earth vessel captained by Ramirez which came to Enterprise's aide when they were under attack
    by Klingons.                                      "The Expanse" [ENT]

"Invocation of Renewal" - The "Invocation of Renewal" has at least three verses: "Goran tonia Agosoria,
Yoraya uralan porporo gost / Totonya tur eeta dura / Tyana mooreeta".  Each verse is chanted by a
cantor, then repeated by the other celebrants.
                            `                                  "Cold Front" [ENT]
    SEE: Agosoria, Great Plume of

Ion storm - A turbulent mass of ionized gas in space with violent electromagnetic effects.
Enterprise traveled through an ion storm after leaving Kronos in 2151.  "You can't be afraid of the wind".
                                                             "Broken Bow" [ENT]
Travis says the weather on Strange New World is nothing compared to flying through an ion storm
at warp 2.                                         "Strange New World" [ENT]
Phlox said that a procedure he was considering was like shutting down the main computer to protect it
from an ion storm.                        "Doctor's Orders" [ENT]

Ion trail - After the Osaarians raided the ship, Enterprise couldn't follow it because they had somehow
managed to "mask" their ion trail.  Enterprise, however, came upon a derelict ship and upon examining
its database found that they had modified their sensors to be able to track the Osaarians.  Enterprise
adapts its sensors and 4 hours later have managed to track the ion trail but it ends 20,000km ahead,
then oddly restarts 70,000km later; Reed notes that their "decay rates" don't match: one is 9 hours old,
the other less than one.  This is due to the cloaking field of one of the spheres.
                                                               "Anomaly" [ENT]
    Also SEE: warp trail.

Isolytic - The body of the "dead" Mayweather showed "Subcutaneous burns consistent with isolytic
shock", and "Ventricular fibrillation induced by isolytic charge".  Phlox inoculated the entire crew
against Rigellian fever, using genetically-altered microbes that should have survived for several weeks,
and thrive on "isolytic energy".       "Dead Stop" [ENT]
